Super-charged high octane anthems that take you to the sleazy side of town.

Falling Red, an outrageous, sleazy quartet from Cumbria, is hoping to attack “...an industry of manufactured one hit wonders” with “...the most vital rock album since Guns n Roses delivered Appetite for Destruction”. Oh boy... they certainly talk big for a band releasing their debut album, but can they deliver?

Falling Red describe their music as “Super-charged high octane anthems that take you to the sleazy side of town”; the band certainly does have a Motley Cruë kind of vibe about them and with track titles such as ‘How You Feel (On Me)’ it’s obvious from the outset that they are keen to revive the glam movement of the 70’s and 80’s.

From start to finish, the album is full of high energy, guitar-driven rock anthems that stick in your head long after they’ve finished playing. As a huge classic rock fan with a particularly soft spot for the Crue and GnR, this music speaks loud and clear to me; I could listen to it for hours! I do get annoyed when two-bit bands attempt to tackle such an iconic genre but Falling Red pull it off perfectly! What’s more, with the current classic rock revival, Falling Red could find themselves appealing to a wider audience than even they had anticipated. Look out robot chart bands, extravagant music is coming back and hopefully this time it’s here to stay!

I really wanted to dislike this band after their arrogant introduction, but I’m struggling to find fault. The music packs a punch, the lyrics are catchy, the attitude is definitely kick-ass... ‘Shake the Faith’ is a memorable album that any classic rock fan should have in their CD collection. I suppose my only criticism is that it is just like going back in time; the band have failed to bring anything new to the genre so at times they sound nothing more than a cheesy tribute act. Falling Red are a hugely talented group of musicians and deserve so much more credit than that; come on lads, get in the spirit of glam rock and bring on the originality!

Has Falling Red grabbed your curiosity? Well, their Shake the Faith tour will take place across the UK between February and April 2010 with further dates to be added in May supporting AC/DC co-founder Dave Evans. What’s more, the band is also due to play SOS Festival in Manchester in July 2010.
