Excellent Indie-Rock

This sweetly melodic and angular EP from Northampton (MA, not UK) based Speedy Ortiz obviously calls on early 90s American rock for inspiration (the good stuff...Pavement et al) but never sounds drenched in nostalgia, which is a good thing as you crave more of them and not the past. Sadie Dupuis' utterly charming vocal delivery saunters along with those quirky and often slightly distorted guitar lines and the melodies are instantly memorable and stick with you for ever. From the opening moments of Basketball the Sports EP has you hooked in, and by the second play through you're already trying to sing along. Probably the strongest track (although it's tough to pick), is the excellent 'single' Silver Spring which is seriously addictive stuff and combines just the right amount of quirk and melody. It's typical of the quality from the five great tunes on this EP. Head over to their Bandcamp to listen and purchase as it comes highly recommended.
