Bad Movie... Great Soundtrack

Cambridge four piece The Fake Exterior have been around for a couple of years, they’ve toured with Takota and now they’re out on they’re releasing their debut album ‘Bad Movie… Great Soundtrack’.

The Fake Exterior don’t waste anytime in kicking things off, the CD opens with a punchy little instrumental intro. ‘Suffer In Lies’ is the first “proper” track and is the first time we get to hear frontman Chris’s voice, which has a warm, rich texture and an instant likeability.

‘Bad Movie… Great Soundtrack’ is home to some great guitar patterns and riffs that The Fake Exterior’s peers would be proud of. Playing plenty of live shows since the band begun two years ago has obviously paid off, they’re tight and work well together. There is solid drumming throughout, and the basslines are punchy.

If I didn’t know that The Fake Exterior were a British band, I would assume they were American, especially when listening to ‘Deleted Scenes’ when Chris seems to sing in a faux-American accent.

Overall, ‘Bad Movie… Great Soundtrack’ is a fab album, there are plenty of sing-along choruses and it is packed full of melody. The Fake Exterior should be proud to have made such an accomplished debut record.
