Dancing queen…

Now upon listening to this my jaw dropped open and my eyes grew wide with shock. For a few seconds I am uncharacteristically lost for words. Alexander Price is a one man band of 80’s revival mixing up Electro/Pop with heavy influences from Abba and Erasure. His bio picture suggests that he might be a rapper or hardcore dance DJ, however looks can be very deceiving…

Apparently he has been described in some quarters as a male Lady Gaga, however I think that this is unkind on the platinum selling artist whom has catchy pop tunes that are more than a few beats and a chorus. ‘Spend A Little Time’ has a catchy bass beat line that borders on sounding like it comes from a fairground. “Invest your love in me!” Alexander demands, and I am a little scared. This is a camp-dance tune, that whilst takes elements of Scissor Sisters and even the likes of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, is very basic. We do have an extremely long remix version just to rub salt into the proverbial wounds…

Heavy usage of a robotic-harmoniser at the beginning to ‘Love Song’ will always annoy me. The song then has a generic dance back beat with laser-beam sounds and rhythmic keyboards. Dripping with computerised harmonies and basic lyrics things don’t get much better.

Creatively this does nothing for me, and perhaps now in my thirties it’s just one of those things that I don’t get. I guess if you were in a club, totally trollied and surrounded by half naked females, then you might be able to shake your thang to this, but most likely you would not.
