Indie Mediocre.
Allegro are predominantly an Indie band although they do dip in and out of many genres for influences from Blues, and Pop to Rock’n’roll, they are a jangly and happy upbeat Indie band at the end of it.
‘City Lights’ is the single here and certainly the strongest of the 3 songs, which of course you would expect. The song has a nice foot-tapping beat to it and there is a very English sound to the vocals from lead singer Austin (I’m sure it’s of no coincidence that a band by the name of Allegro would have someone called Austin in the band!).
‘Won’t You See’ is a nice acoustic song that has some slightly off production, and either the song is recorded live or there is extra sound and echo on the singers voice. On it’s own this is a good melodic ballad, and Austin’s slightly strained vocals give it a Blues feel that really adds to the song. Then in, ‘Hola Senorita’ the sound is a lot quieter than the song before which is annoying, and a shame as it’s a quick upbeat number. It has a frantic and slightly Scatty-Indie feel like the Arctic Monkeys.
Allegro are a band that fit nicely into the Indie genre, but whether they have enough to rise above everyone else is doubtful. There is enough to suggest that they have something, but it may be another album or so before the band find their own voice and possibly success. It’s still a little Indie-by-numbers for me.
