ska by any other name
The title track of the 'Future Echos' EP starts out sounding like just another generic rock song, one of many that are currently doing the rounds, then, Advantage kick it up a notch, bringing in the beats and the brass that makes this music their own. These Midland boys have the blend down pat, with characteristic up tempo beats and featured brass while adding in distorted guitars and linking it with tight rhythms.
'Something to Say' kicks off with driving brass the lyrical tempo following the beat before closing the 3 track EP with 'The Fear' a blend of punky pop vocals tied up nicely in the brass, guitars and drums.
They say they're pioneering a new genre and labelling it brass rock. Not surprisingly, given that it's predominantly upbeat rock music with some brass thrown in for good measure, brass rock sound suspiciously like ska, albeit on the heavier side of the genre. Embrace the genre I say, there is a large fan base looking for bands like this don't confuse them by inventing a new name for it.
Advantage bring a fresh sound to today, with upbeat fun songs that make you want to get out on the dancefloor and move.
