Freaky
Freakazoid is the first worldwide release from Holland's melodic rockers features former Zinatra vocalist Joss Mennen.
Mennen's vocals are definitely melodic. They almost sound reminiscent to early U2 especially in opener in Down. You are almost reminded of Guns N Roses or Cinderella with the almost random whistling. Above The Waterline has an almost Chilli Pepper-esque guitar playing giving that almost acoustic rawness. The album on whole is very power ballady filled with sugar-sweet lyrics with a couple exceptions with Bob that has a bit more of a Nickelback crunch. And These Good Times does carefully use distorted guitars in the most melodic ways.
The songs on Freakazoid have the potential to be a hit on AOR radio but nothing seems to grab your attention outstandingly. Although you’ve got to give credit to Mennen, you don’t get many clean-cut polished acts these days.
I'm can't get over the fact that Josh Mennen's vocals strangely resembles Bono’s.
A good but not brilliant effort from this quartet.
