Love songs for every temperament

Although Berlin based newcomer Alev Lenz has released a European album, her ‘Alte Schönhauser EP’ is the debut material to be released in the UK.

The ‘Alte Schönhauser EP’ is a five-track collection of idiosyncratic love songs. It opens with ‘Write About It’, a heated song directed to an ex boyfriend, a sharp projection of anger topped off with some quick horns. ‘Dance’ is a charming, gentler and more placid number, slow moving with more tender emotions put across compared to the anger in the first. ‘Band-Aid Man’ follows on with a quick flip between gentle taps to intensified electric guitar chords; like the flip of a mood. The penultimate song ‘Song For Sea’ is by far the EP’s finest number. It is a dramatic demonstration of melancholy with an honest and expressive piano melody. ‘Serve With Milk’ closes the release with a self-discovery notion, that although embarks as a ballad turns into an anthem at some points.

These five tunes are not going to attract the tastes of everyone, as love songs typically don’t. If they are the sort that rock your boat, then you’ll be glad to hear details of a UK gigging session are to be announced this summer so keep an eye and ear out for more details soon.
