A mellow MoOt
In a time where much of the music being released is loud and powerful, it is always a breath of fresh air to have something a little mellower and heartfelt to listen to.
Singer songwriter MoOt takes the essence of song writing and with it creates plenty of delicious Britpop numbers with meaningful verses and catchy choruses. There are times you will want to sing out loud or simply sit back and take the words on board. One significant element that really makes the lyrics stand out is the way in which they are not overpowered by the music within the song. Take 'Dancing Nowhere' for example, these lyrics can fully be appreciated due to the fact they are not pinned under layer upon layer of musical tones, melodies and guitar riffs. Much more emotion and sentiment can be felt due to the lyrics being more audible.
When accompanied by a range of instruments, moods can be set that really offset the lyrics; take 'Misery' for example. The use of a large range of musical sounds is set off through the use of combinations that make the songs memorable such as with the opener 'It's a Beautiful Day', which is one of the more notable for this. The vocals supplied alongside these songs don't change between the rockier numbers and those a little mellower, although are more sentimental on the latter. When the harmonising kicks in, things become much more rounded and far more enjoyable.
Overall, MoOt has created an interesting, enjoyable and fresh new album that will have every listener thankful for a new sound.
