Classic Punk Rock
With the rock stance of Foo Fighters, the punk grit of Rise Against, a nod to Bad Religion and even a touch of Avenged Sevenfold guitar riffage, LA rockers Margate certainly have a lot to offer with their EP, "Rock N' Roll Reserve", the love child of rock and punk fused together with a classic backbone to make each track seem like a long lost friend.
Kicking off with the catchy 'Control' in all its frantic frenzy, Margate immediately lure you into their world as riffs wail, punk charged lyrics are vented through appealing vocals and backing vocals blast a hail of "woahs" to up the catchy ante and snare all. Tackling a cover is always a risky move, add the fact that said cover is a Beatles classic and the LA rockers may as well tred through a mine field. Luckily for them, and for our ears, it is a risk that pays off as 'Eleanor Rigby' discovers her rock mojo, upping the menace of the original with some fist pounding beats and bass lines to truly give the Beatle's sombre track a real classic rock make over. And so Margate's attack begins; 'Live It Up' is a rush of punk fused riffs whilst 'Lovesick' delivers a sentimental wave of rock clinging to a punk torpedo that will instantly have toes tapping before 'Rock N' Roll Reserve' brings your head out of the love clouds with a blast of old school punk to make even the oldest rockers feel like a teen once again.
Margate is certainly not a one trick pony though as EP closer, 'This Road' proves. Gone are the frantic beats and in their place comes a rush of classic rock, drenched in nostalgia searching lyrics and mesmerising riffs that brilliantly brings the EP to its close and cementing the LA trio as a band deserving of your time.
