These Texans need to realise that America is not waiting!

Bursting out of the American state associated with crazy backwards banjo playing folk, spitting tobacco and draining whisky like there's no tomorrow, come hard rockin' good ole boys, America Is Waiting who apparently make a sound that's, '...more powerful than the corporate oil lobbyist and evangelical preachers combined...', which I think you'll find, says it all, folks...

First song, 'Sympathy For Rome' sounds like Janes Addiction gone post-hardcore. Screeching vocals from lead screamer Michael Riginio are very much like Perry Farrell. There are some great riffs throughout this album from guitarist Ryan Singley, which give the band a great basis for some good solid tracks. 'Nothing Justifies' and 'The Separation Between' are more in the loud post-hardcore vein that you'd expect for a band made up with ex-Mineral tub-thumper Joseph Nerio. The final member is the rather fantastically named Jimmy Rabbit, whose name surely is about as real as his parents being called Roger and Jessica...

'The Guns Are Shaking' is a great song and by far the best one on here. Packed with thick riffs on the intro, the song slows with a quite but thoughtful verse, before working up into a beast of a song. Both 'The Virus Is Airborne' and 'Guilty' a slower songs which America Is Waiting are stronger at, and it's easier for them to spread their gospel all the more clearer.

Finishing with the epic 'Intravenous Genius' which clocks in a little under 6 minutes, and is a mediocre song surrounded with indulgent guitar solos that comes off sounding more like an over enthusiastic jam session. This however is a lot better than the hidden - and I hate to use the word song - track, which is basically Ryan doing a guitar solo that, although impressive, can't be classed as anything more than a mess around.

At 8 tracks the album isn't that long, and despite touring with the likes of Muse, Trail Of The Dead and Hell Is For Heroes, America Is Waiting cannot emulate the high standards of these said bands, nor the ones they're influenced by like: The Jesus Lizard, Drive Like Jeru, Nirvana, or The Melvins. It's a mediocre album that is fine and dandy to listen to but I wouldn't worry about remembering this bands name to much...Same old same old, folks...
