Glasgow Electronica

The Mitford Girls are, naturally, actually male and despite the pink sleeve, if their music had a gender, it would definitely be asexual, as it mostly comprises of connected bleeps and oozing melodies.

'Binary Boy' is the amusingly smart tale of a binary boy and an analogue girl, who are of course, completely incompatible. A mix of searing synth and keyboard carries the tune along surprisingly well as the vocals come together for some last minute harmony near the end. The Glaswegian accent, which almost spells out kooky electro-indie, and different vocalisations for the female character make this a very witty and promising tune, especially as it's self-produced.

'Pills To Paris' is a little more laid back and built up of more natty electronica with a groovy softcore rap chorus smoothing you into the tune, it's got a chilled out bassline that eases the disconnected synth sounds along. Vocals are provided by two of the band members in 'Angry Raisins', which increases the interest in these otherwise relatively simplistic, but cohesive tunes.

It all sounds very homemade, but this is no bad thing as plenty of promise still shines through these slightly rough-around-the-edges tunes. If you like electronica and backing bands right from the beginning, then you could do worse than giving The Mitford Girls a little of your time.
