This is pop.
Subterranean Homesick Blues meets Only Fools and Horses, with a "Carry On The Streets" remix. In fact, if anyone can recall the Fast Show spoof of George Formby playing Bob Dylan songs, I think you know exactly where 'Bling Bling Baby' is coming from.
It is impossible to not smile throughout this track; it contains a bouncy pop swagger and is a breathless blast through the grimey side of UK life. For those sick of treadmills and vitamin pills, Milk Kan have written the first soundtrack for the new 24 hour licensing laws. Make sure to learn the lyrics before you go pogoing down the high street and punch someone's lights out.
Musically, its quirky and the chug-a-lug backing beat sets the lyrical flow perfectly and the comedy sound effects work well with the fuzz guitar that brackets the verses.
And as if to prove the lead track isn't a fluke, the two B-sides simmer and breeze by in the exact same manner. As a sort of cross between Madness and The Clash, every track is constantly on its toes, scarily up-tempo and not afraid of violence.
You may have heard them on Radio 1 but don't hold that against them, this is the single to put a smile on your face long after the brussel sprouts nightmare subsides.
