Frenetic Female-Led Rock

Vivacious, vibrant and full of rocking vibes, Mary Jane may just be Huddersfield's most charismatic export if this EP is anything to go by. Most bands stick to 3 or 4 tracks for an EP, but Mary Jane throw in 7 anthemic numbers, opening with driving 'Lipstick', guitars snarl and percussion- by the only male in the group- crashes unrelentingly. 'Love' is more brooding but full of raw vocals, "As strong as I am there ain't nothing I can do when he tries to hurt me"; there's a certain hint of grunge spirit that recalls Nirvana, as well as displaying Courtney Love's determination. The 'alternative version' of the track which closes the EP is just as vicious,'Truth' continues the spirited onslaught, musing over wanting someone to want you for who you are; however Mary Jane are far from shallow high school pop-punk with their bitter riffs and powerful choruses sure to win over most audiences.

'What I Came Here For' has even more of the lithe Cobain guitar-style about it, the vocals career off like singer Teri Flynn's lips are on fire. This is full-on rock and roll with beats that make you want to drop everything and bounce around the room.

'Not The First Time' is the first live recording taken from a BBC Raw Talent recording session; it's full of crazed guitars and ruthless percussion and alongside 'Overgrown' it's a given that Mary Jane rocked the audience at the contest to within inches of their lives. Mary Jane are definitely a band whose sound could break through the over-saturated indie market and kick some good old rock n'roll ass this year!
