One For The Fans

Michael Katon returns with his second live album to date in the shape of 'Live – On The Prowl'.

For the most part you cannot tell that this is a live CD, throughout the songs there is no cheering or applause, or any obvious sign that there is a crowd there for that matter, the only time you hear the crowd is at the end of each track. Personally I think that's a good thing, although live albums with lots of audience participation capture the atmosphere of the show, you've paid to hear the artist not however many random strangers in a room.
The opening track on 'Live – On The Prowl' provides a treat for fans as it's the previously unreleased 'Guitar For My Friend'. Compared to a lot of other live albums this one sounds very raw and unpolished, and gives the impression that not much post production has taken place.

Katon plays all his on material on this album and offers a mix of blues, country and rockabilly. There's no doubt that Katon is a good guitar player, but he's not outstanding, there are far better guitarists out there.

If you're a fan of guitar led blues rock and husky vocals then 'Live – On The Prowl' is the album for you, but this is definitely not for everyone.
