Subtle Electro Deconstruction

'Personal Jesus' a song covered by Marilyn Manson to great effect, but with little in the way of alteration from the God of Fuck. Now it's prey to Metamatics own remix skills, their version is rather the antithesis of Manson's raucous rock version, this is a soft and gentle number with soothing female vocals intoning, "Reach out and touch faith" like hands on healers for the soul. There's a liberal sprinkling of synth riffs, including a tinny version of the original looming riffs that precede Depeche Mode's verses. Bathed in serenity and calm, it's very odd to hear this tune deconstructed in such a way, but I'd rather see it this way than another half hearted cover as another rock take on this would inevitably be (take Nightwish's version of 'Enjoy The Silence').

As this single doesn't present any of Metamatics' own material I can't comment on their overall style, but this is an inoffensive and dreamy take on a classic hit, a dangerous cover to take on, but they pull it off.
