Let The Genre Crossovers Begin
Apparently working on the concept that you can't beat throwing everything into the pot and see what happens, West Midlands four piece AFD Shift have done just that with surprising results. On paper the band's structure would have pig headed musos rolling around the floor in a fit of laughter, after all how can a metal, dance and hip hop mix really gain creditability after the days of Nu-metal? But then you listen to the record and there's a charm and sparkle that just works, slotting together effortlessly and overriding the odds to become a raucously infectious slice of adrenalin pumped rock.
Like a demented energiser bunny wielding a guitar, 'Crusader' rushes around with a metal core before sprinkling you with touches of dance and hip hop. Although perhaps steering too close to the dance sphere to please hardcore metal heads, 'Crusader' irresistibly melds the unthinkable into a frantically charged track suggesting that AFD Shift could follow the likes of The Prodigy in being a crossover band. Let the genre crossing commence.
