Melodic Rock Out
Spaced-out experimental rock is served up with a frisson of excitement by British four-piece Menendez.
Opener 'Pleasantries' will have you drifting into a world of calm that ebbs and flows with the mesmeric keyboard patterns, while '9:29' sees the dreamy brother-sister vocal harmonies of bassist Daniel and keyboardist Rachel juxtaposed with colourful guitar stabs and bluesy meanderings.
'Beef Jerky' is an interesting mixture of instruments, but far less dubious than the ingredients in its namesake. It's a tune that throws together plenty of flavours and let's you savour them, reflecting on a different one each listen. Above all this is a fresh sounding tune that's perfect for filling you with purpose on a lazy Sunday morning.
'Sowing The Seeds Of Rock n'Roll Love That God Gave You' will wash over you with just the right measures of blissful calm and skedaddling guitar to hold your interest inspite of the lack of vocals. It's the final track, 'Living On The Shore' that turns out to be the experimental masterpiece, an epic of 14 minutes duration, it begins with the sounds of a sweeping tide before moving into a mellow synth segment with soothing vocals and a somnolent trippy percussive pattern and ultimately a full on melodic jam that breezes in and out like the sea lapping at the coastal scenery it describes.
