The Maybes - Talk About You

Scouse five-piece The Maybes? have a great reputation on the live scene and now the lads are releasing their new single ‘Talk About You’ via download only.

‘Talk About You’ is a driving song about a modern day relationship breakdown, and the opening drums have a distinct George Harrison-like sound to them which is no doubt going to grab the attention of plenty of listeners. ‘Talk About You’ has an instant likeability, it’s the sort of track you can not listen to just once.

Vocally frontman Nick Ellis can’t be faulted, his delivery is perfect, he nails every note and every now and again his Liverpudlian accent slips through, which gives an extra level of depth to his raspy voice.

Considering the subject matter you’d probably expect the track to be quite mellow, but ‘Talk About You’ is actually upbeat, and the jumpy guitars work really nicely with the lyrics. The realisation that you’re not going to miss being with someone and that you’re better of without them is a great feeling, and The Maybes? have perfectly captured that on this single.

With its driving drumbeat and melodic guitar work, ‘Talk About You’ is bound to become an indie favourite over the summer, it’s a great little tune and shows The Maybes? to have a lot of talent and promise. Bring on the summer and the release of their debut album ‘Promise’ because if this track is anything to go by it’s definitely going to be worth a listen.
