Sent back from the future! (or so they claim, anyway)

Perhaps their name is a little off-putting, but Fuji Heavy are, in fact, rather good. Their demo, with its amateur feel (it's rather hard to read the track listing scrawled over the front) doesn't seem to promise much, but like all of the best books the cover is deceptive. Fuji Heavy's demo demonstrates a need to be different and a need to force even the most jaded of music journos to lighten their mood a little.

'Sunburn' sports a high-pitched chipmunk choir alongside wildly catchy guitars. This is feel good, light hearted rock that simply begs to be played whilst you're getting ready for a night out. With talent by the bucketload, Fuji Heavy have landed and you'd better watch out. Their demo contains the kind of strength normally found in a band formed many years previously, rather than the beginning of 2003. Clearly Fuji Heavy are made of a different material to your average run of the mill band.

Whilst the opening track bounces like an over excited five year old, 'Face Like A Criminal' is a little more relaxed, sporting the type of sensual, sleek-black-cat-against-freshly-shaved-legs vocals that so many bands today can only dream of. 'Face Like A Criminal' tries to force you to fall in love with its ice cool charm and just like a cat, the more you resist, the harder it will be not to fall into temptation. Go on, you know it's a good song really.

Fuji Heavy's final offering, 'Glitterama' continues where its sister tracks have begun to tread. It focuses on the softer, sensual side rather than the playful face they portray so well. With vocals that break triumphantly into Hives-esque screams, it's unsurprising that Fuji Heavy are remaining one step away from the competition and if they continue to let their talent flourish, they're going to be one band you'll hear more of in the coming years.
