A glimpse of things to come?
Having a deal with Statue records in California will probably serve Vert well as they do have something of an American sound. There is something a little different about Vert- the music is good. Infact, it's very good; metal with a bit of emo and the little samples between tracks (in Pitchshifter style) work well.
The problem with Vert (on this release at least) however is the vocals, at times they are way too high in the mix, other times they sound whiney and even out of tune. The third track on this release, 'Room for One More', is a really good solid tune that gets your head nodding in time but is ruined by the vocals. Fortunately this is partly remedied on the next track 'Alone' with a simple effective riff on which the vocals work better.
Last track 'Feeling' is a more muted, mellow affair with the vocals swathed in effects. This works well to create a nice groove and you have to say that the preceding tracks would have benefited from similar treatment on the vocal front. With 'No Retreat No Surrender' Vert show promise, they've definitely got something but they just need to find the right mix to show what they can really do.
