A hidden depth

All The Way Rider were a new name to me so as always I was intrigued to see what the band were all about. Was it indie, pop punk, alternative rock or a mix of genres from one end of the spectrum to the other?

What I ended up listening to is rather hard to describe. I would use the words put across by the press release; “Big, smart Rock” except that it doesn’t really have a big sound, more a muffled mass of alternative wannabe, it isn’t smart, as the music industry is not for smart people, more creative and artistic musicians, the rock part semi fits though, if touched with a darker side.

‘The Eagles Revenge’ is the bands forthcoming release and among the intense, driven, loud and powerful songs, are more intense, driven, loud and powerful songs, and the odd subtle snippet. The press release can’t say enough good things about this band and their album which seems a little in your face and persistent. Press release says, “memorable song writing”, does anyone really sit, memorise and analyse words created by a band and accompanying a song? I didn’t think so; we want tracks we can yelp along to so memorable NO, but they are however more enjoyable than some hardcore releases I have listened to. Press release says, “All The Way Rider manage to deliver loud rock”, this is partly true. Most songs grab your attention with the loud wave of hard-hitting guitars, however, there are only a few minor alterations differing the songs, and even less that actually caught my attention. ‘Let The Eagles’ for its sweet under a minute long wave of pleasant and subtle sounds, ‘Starting To Warole’ for the lesser-intensified blast of sound, but more unexpectedly ‘Until The Light Beats Back The Night’; a song motivated firstly by a touching and mysterious underpinning then by a piano melody.

I began writing this review with doubt over the songs created. Other than these few exceptions, the majority fail to impress this listener, but those that I was touched by, show there is something exceptional hidden beneath All The Way Rider, we just need to shake it up and get a corkscrew to find out more.
