With some parts of the UK enjoying the hottest day of the year so far, it means festival time is virtually upon us.

Radio 1 are this weekend hosting their annual Big Weekend, with a diverse collection of massive acts ranging from Madonna and Usher to The Kooks, Fratellis, Editors, Fatboy Slim and We Are Scientists playing to 30,000 people in Maidstone, Kent.

Give It A Name also happens this weekend, in London and Sheffield.

Next weekend the new music spotlight focuses on Brighton, with The Great Escape line up including Fratellis, Futureheads, Subways, The Automatic, The Go! Team, Ghost of a Thousand, Cage The Elephant, The Hold Steady, The Ting Tings, Cancer Bats, Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong, Crystal Castles, King Blues, Pete and the Pirates, Johnny Truant, Eamon Hamilton (Brakes), The Wombats and Chris T T.

Other bands of note include former R13 Band of the Week acts This City, Tripwires and Hijak Oscar, and one who impressed our SXSW spy A Place To Bury Strangers.

Conor Oberst will be making his Scottish debut with mysterious new project, The Magic Valley Band at Hydro Connect Festival this year. The Gutter Twins, Howling Bells, Asobi Seksu and Foy Vance have also joined the line-up along with previously confirmed acts including Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Bloc Party, Paolo Nutini, Sigur Ros, Manic Street Preachers, Goldfrapp and Grinderman.

Connect takes place from August 29-31, at Inveraray Castle.

In other Scottish news, T in the Park have confirmed that The King Tut’s Tent will be open on the Friday for the first time, with The Futureheads headlining.

They’ll be joined by Alphabeat, Kids In Glass Houses and Los Campesinos.

Added to that stage for Saturday are In Case of Fire, with Vampire Weekend playing on Sunday.

T in the Park is a total sell out, as is Reading and Leeds who this week added Last Shadow Puppets as co-headliner for the Radio 1/NME Stage.

They head to Leeds on Friday August 22, and Reading on Sunday 24. The other headliner that night is The Cribs.

Something you can still get a ticket for is Download, with even more acts added this week.

New names are Saxon, Fighting With Wire, The Haze, Big Linda, Last Supper, Caimbo, Voodoo Six, The Galvatrons, Between The Buried And Me, Sons Of Albion, Army Of Freshman, Sign, Lethal Bizzle, High On Fire, In Case Of Fire, Johnny Truant and Annotations Of An Autopsy. Stone Gods, featuring three of the Darkness, minus Justin Hawkins, have also announced they’ll be heading to Download this year.

A full weekend ticket for Download costs £130.

Download happens over the weekend of June 13-15.

Charismatic singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright, eccentric rocker Julian Cope, Howling Bells and Sam Isaac are the latest additions to the bill for the Uncut Arena at this year's Latitude Festival. White Lies and Fields will also perform at the Obelisk Arena with Nic Dawson Kelly and songstress Tallulah Rendall the latest additions for the Sunrise Arena.

Latitude takes place from July 17-20 in Henham Park, Suffolk.

The Happy Mondays are among the latest acts to be announced for Relentless Wakestock Festival, which as well as its traditional setting in Abersoch, this year also takes place from June 27-29 at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.

Estelle, The Blackout, Goldierocks, Hyper, Sonny J, Uncle Buck, Dan Greenpeace, Jaguar Skills, I-Koma have also joined the likes of Groove Armada, Mark Ronson, Funeral For A Friend, The Streets and Supergrass.

Lovebox has added Dandy Warhols to their line up, which is already featuring Groove Armada, Goldfrapp, Flaming Lips, Jack Penate, Young Knives and Lightspeed Champion.

The event happens in London’s Victoria Park over the weekend of July 19-20.
