While part of the country is suffering the wettest drought in history, it's time to bring you our Band of the Month for May in the hope that we forget the rainy weather and to do that we head over to the tropical climate that is Dublin and introduce The Velourias:

Bio:
The Velourias are a kick ass 3 piece rock band from Dublin, Ireland. They are Phil (Guitar + Vox), Rob (Bass + Vox) and Nick (Drums). They play sharp shooting, hip shaking rock music in the same vein as Idlewild, At The Drive-In, Bloc Party and the Pixies and are known for their raw, energetic live performances.

Seeking adventure, the band decided to give up their day jobs and relocated to Leeds to spend 2009 gigging and writing music full time. The result is their self-titled debut album, which was recorded by the band themselves in various studios in Leeds and Dublin and mixed by James Kenosha (Dinosaur Pile-up, Grammatics, Pulled Apart By Horses). Featuring 10 tracks including the acoustic-driven Into The Flood, radio friendly single Brazen and the epic closer Trapped In The Belly Of The Whale, the album is currently available as a free download from thevelourias.bandcamp.com.

Members:
Phil Keogh (Guitar + Vocals)
Rob Pope (Bass + Backing Vocals)
Nick Murtagh (Drums)

Influences:

If you were the prime minister for one day, what would you do:
If I was prime minister for one day I'd probably just hang out around Westminster, the House of Lords and stuff. I'd probably make some tough decisions over something or other and have tea with the queen. Then finish off the day with a nice bath and a cigar in Downing Street.
Lovely!

If you could go back to any time in history, where would you go and why:
I'd probably go back to the Victorian era and be a crazy Duke of my own manor, hold lavish parties and bed lots of hot Victorian chicks. I'd probably drink lots of wine and wear a big hat and have a crazy looking moustache and be an all round dandy who didn't give a shit.
