Highly Suspect Sold-Out Show

Having recently been nominated for two Grammys, you would expect Highly Suspect to be playing a venue of at least Brixton Academy size, but instead we were lucky enough to catch them in Camden’s cosy venue; Black Heart.

The Black Heart was sold-out so Highly Suspect had a bit of a battle to make it through the crowd, but their efforts were appreciated as they were greeted with a warm welcome as they hit the stage and launched into Bath Salts which proved to be the perfect track to showcase exactly why there is so much hype surrounding this band.

Highly Suspect’s music is raw and powerful; their lyrics are edgy and hold no bars; but the sounds they create are extremely likeable and catchy. Frontman Johnny Stevens proved himself to be an impressive performer, never hitting a bum note and holding the crowd’s attention througout.

The band is completed by twins Rich and Ryan Meyer, who play bass and drums respectively. Ryan is a true asset to the band, showing off some great technical skills while appearing completely at ease behind the kit. Highly Suspect played a killer set, they did not let up for a moment and never missed a beat, the only time things slowed down a tad was when bassist Rich took on lead vocals for the performance of Round and Round.

The set closed with Lydia and Claudeland which ensured everyone in the venue left a dishevelled, sweaty but happy mess. Highly Suspect are living proof that grunge is not dead, and we highly suspect that these three chaps are destined for big things with or without a Grammy win.
