Lo-fi seduction

The Ettes ooze gritty sex appeal from their distorted fuzz and heavy dirty bass through to Coco’s coy but knowing vocal delivery; their songs are tuneful, punk based garage rock and roll numbers with beats that make you want to stomp your feet. On this five track EP The Ettes display a canny knack for mixing melody with minimal lo-fi grime and it’s a quite seductive combination. The tracks here are all short sharp stabs of danceable attitude, but thankfully there is plenty of substance to go along with the attitude. EP opener ’No Home’ drowns you in dark sweetness, shouty live track ‘The Rules’ displays how full of energy they are and ‘Lo and Behold’ has a surf rock edge with the duel vocal approach and almost Beach Boys-esque riffs. You’re not likely to miss this trio for long, having already supported Kings Of Leon, The Gossip and The Go-Go’s and with an album due soon, they’re collecting fans rapidly.
