Go To Berlin - Just A Band
After having some success in their native homeland Romania, Go To Berlin are now approaching British soil with their debut five track Ep ‘Just A Band’.
Each song is riddled with guitar hooks, which build on the indie rock platform on which the record is based. Other than this, the five songs are quite varied. The first two tracks consist of simple verses but choruses that hold much more diversity as they have a certain ring to them. ‘My Time’ is probably the greatest song on the release. It holds more momentum, power and a sense of knowing. There is something comforting about it, like being wrapped in a duvet on a cold night listening to your favourite tune on repeat. It is one song you just have to listen to and you will instantly fall in love with it. ‘The Show Off Song’ is darker and there is an underpinning of heavy guitar riffs through much of the song. There is a gravely edge through the chorus that adds some yearning to be appreciated. Where the majority of the tunes are quite upbeat and lively, ‘Cheap Friend’ begins with a more placid nature, while the guitar hooks can be heard building in the background; eventually the song erupts into something livelier.
No matter how loud you have the release turned up it never seems to stream above a certain point, which is a little disappointing. However, for a first attempt it isn’t half bad. With pop, rock and indie elements being fused together, what more could you ask for.
