The Lost Ep

What is that? Why it’s a purely reverent Britpop guitar riff, which is somewhat misleading for a band like The Light Streams. After a handful of gigs and festival appearances, The Lost EP is their debut offering of already renowned contemporary feel good indie pop.

The misleadingly retro start to ‘Caroline’ aside, the vocals sit much too far in the foreground but when the reverberating duet carries the track it becomes something to be proud of, something to revel in alongside inspiring melodies. Leeds is where the band call home and becomes the backdrop for ‘City Walls‘; of early starts, dead end jobs and living for the weekend, sung with an almost deprecating tone. The track deviates with its modest guitar and a sudden break to slow the tempo and allow for full appreciation of the duo’s well rehearsed vocal arrangement.

‘Save Me Sally’ showcases the band’s poignant side with a touching acoustic opening before breaking into their now established, earnest sound, embracing incessantly catchy couplets. Such a reputable hybrid of sympathy and industry then gives way to a psychadelic start to closer ’Whatever Gets You Through (Gets You Through)' and after some sweet aahs, the pace picks up and an anthem is born. Akin to McFly and their annoyingly successful penchant for sincere faux-rock tunes, though not nearly as helplessly tiresome.
