Woods - To Clean

If you are of the growing number of people that are rapidly becoming tired of the new craze surrounding underground lo-fi indie music, then outside the homes of Woods are the places to park your protest banners and spark up the angry chants.

While producing their own stripped-back, charmingly shambolic, indie music, Jeremy Earl, who, alongside Jarvis Taveniere, make up Woods, also runs the label Woodsist. Home to, amongst others, Crystal Stilts and Wavves.

New single ‘To Clean’ is a perfect introduction into current fad for wobbly vocals, lazy recording and de-tuned guitars. While this may sound like an insult, it’s not meant to be, as the ramshackle nature of the sound is what makes the genre so charming. But whether you need more than one of these types of bands in your life is a serious question (I’d recommend wandering in the direction of Deerhunter) as the charm can quickly wash off.

Even so ‘To Clean’ and especially b-side ‘Rain on Radio’ are delightful continuations on a theme, but will at the same time rub some people completely up the wrong way.
