Tearing Each Other Apart

Deadwax, known as the section on a vinyl record left blank for etching, yet there is nothing lifeless in the latest offering from this south west London rock ‘n’ roll outfit. Barely into their fledging career and a headlining Wembley performance is already in the bag; granted they were playing second fiddle to the NFL game but the accolade remains.

No wonder they seem at ease in vast arenas, Tearing Each Other Apart is no holds barred anthemic rock ‘n’ roll. From Richard Power’s lingering, rousing vocals to the simple, unrelenting percussion. Even if the track does sound as if recorded in a wardrobe, Power’s vocals still resonate, rising in prominence as the guitar gains intensity and the track reaches pulsating heights. Nothing remarkable lies in their line-up of two guitars, bass and drums but Deadwax have breathed life into a seemingly redundant genre with passion and a well crafted arrogance for a heady concoction of Oasis’ forcefulness and The Verve’s penchant for a meaningful melody.
