A great classic rock vibe that will be appealing to a wide audience

State of Rock is a hard rock band from Germany made up of former Frontline members Robby Bobel (guitar), Hutch Bauer (bass) and Rami Ali (drums) along with former Shy vocalist Tony Mills.

Although the band was only formed in 2009, the music very much reflects the members’ 80’s heydays. Even their biker image, incorporating long hair, tattoos, leather and denim, is reminiscent of the days when the likes of Saxon and Motorhead were the coolest bands around.

Guitar fans will love "A Point Of Destiny"; there are a lot of meaty riffs and cheeky licks, check out track 8 ‘A Point of Destiny’ in particular - it’s a guaranteed “wow” moment!

In a way the band reminds me of re-emerging rock heroes, Journey. Far from the macho kick-ass songs normally associated with the hard rock genre, the majority of the tracks tell tales of a romantic nature! The band manage to cling to their macho image with fantastic lyrics such as “I’m black and blue getting over you” however track 4 ‘Don’t Make Me Cry’, with its soaring vocals and delicate piano melody shows the tough guys’ soft side. Mills’ voice sounds as if it lacks the raw power of your average hard rock vocalist however, as did Journey frontman Steve Perry, he holds his own against the heavy instrumentals superbly, giving the songs a more mainstream sound and thus making the band more appealing to the lighter music fan.

The most outstanding song on the album has to be title track ‘A Point Of Destiny’; the band really does turn it up to 11 for this one..! Big instrumentals and an even bigger vocal performance from Mills makes this one a definite winner in my books.

State of Rock’s music has a great classic rock vibe that will be appealing to a wide audience, particularly as classic rock seems to be the “in thing” at present. Their debut album, "A Point Of Destiny", is a wonderful example of what can be produced when there’s chemistry between songwriters. It has romance, it has attitude and it has great instrumental outbursts; what more could you want! Let your hair down, clear the room and lose yourself in this melodic nirvana.

"A Point of Destiny" was released in the UK on 1st February 2010. For further information about State of Rock, the album and the band’s plans for the future, check out their website www.stateofrock.net
