It has been a long time coming but London Blackmarket finally release their second single, 'The Hardest Stone To Throw'. Why the wait? One slip, one fractured vertebrae for lead singer and songwriter Nicholas Long and he’s lucky to walk, let alone sing. Still, good things come to those who wait.
The title track carries on from where previous single, ‘Checkmate‘, left off with a flurry of drums and buzzsaw guitar with just enough confidence to steer their urgent delivery evoking The Libertines in their early pomp. Like their moniker, ‘Linas Store’ takes inspiration from our fair capital as an intriguing reference to an Italian delicatessen in Soho but this is no less inspired as an initially more withdrawn tempo gifts Long’s fraught vocals a chance to impress to which the track then rises and falls. ‘Last Chance Dance’ epitomises the single for another harried performance featuring Long’s vocals playing in tight tandem with more furious riffs before the bedlam drifts off into silence.
