Heading your way soon...

The four members of Callel grew up in the same area of Granton in Edinburgh and bonded over a passion for music. Their debut album 'Body Discovery' was recorded in their bedrooms during 2009 and will hopefully give them the credit needed to move further up the musical ladder of the industry.

These four young and very talented musicians create music with the aim of standing out, sounding different and refreshing the music scene in a way that has never been done before; this album is able to create exactly that. The 10 songs have sixties undertones, but there are also plenty of strong guitar melodies and some string segments; the strings open the record with ‘Our Final Eight’ and later returns on ‘Gallus’ and ‘Try To Be Quiet’. These areas and those with a slightly more acoustic foundation may sound much more delicate, but when surrounded with the upbeat searing sounds of ‘Best Foot On The Ground’ and the united spirit of ‘Body Discover’, things are unpredictable.

‘I ’d Like To See Your Brain’ is the song that is of particular interest. Although it didn’t sound like much at the start, just another acoustic based tune, once you get into it, it surprises with some beautiful melodies and vocal harmonies. As you listen it builds in momentum, with the energies increasing, the music intensifying and the song getting stronger and more memorable; it actually sends tingles through your body. This was the best four minutes of the album.

Combining indie melodies with the odd alternative rock contribution, Callel create a rather varied record that delves into a variety of styles and sounds. This record will be of particular interest to someone that enjoys listening to a wide range of musical techniques. Callel will be breaking away from their Scottish confinements very soon.
