Understated, evocative, lo-fi folk

This Is The Kit aka Kate Stables, releases her second album "Wriggle Out the Restless" (Dreamboat Records) this year, and ‘Moon’ is its debut single, with exclusive B-side ‘Treehouse.’ Stables - originally from Winchester and now settled in Paris - has toured, amongst many others, alongside Jose Gonzalez. Her sound has much in common with Gonzales: still, sparse instrumentation, offering emotional space in the pauses which hangs between notes. Stable’s style is such that her tracks say as much in their silences as they do in their melodies.

‘Moon’ combines feminine and tranquil vocals with delicate, harp-like acoustic guitars, trumpets, light drums with glockenspiel sounds shining from this weightless, understated sound. A peaceful splendour emanates from this track, like the calm behind the sunlight on a windless summer day. With her hauntingly beautiful finesse, Stables shares with the listener evocative recollections of love and romance.

‘Treehouse’ is a nursery rhyme of a song, harking back to carefree childhood innocence. More playful, bright and youthful than ‘Moon’ with slow-paced melodic guitar, hanging flourishes between the verses, and a trumpet solo towards the track’s close.

Tracks dusted with misty eyed nostalgia and distant sun-filled memories, This Is The Kit is definitely an artist to listen to watch out for in the summer time.
