Every song could be a hit in its own right.
The Mercy House say on their Myspace page that their sole intention is to hit the UK music scene with a clenched fist and wow, do they do that! Vocalist Drew has an incredible power to his voice whilst Dan's intricate guitar shredding left me speechless. The music is heavy but not at all lacking in melody or personality; fans of eighties giants such as Iron Maiden will love this band.
Although every song on the EP could be a hit in its own right, final track 'Inversions' was probably my favourite, blending elements of classic metal, prog and modern rock into one monster song.
Regular readers will know that I'm not particularly complimentary about British heavy metal, sick to death of hearing the same old heavy instrumentals with the same old growling vocals, but The Mercy House bring something quite different to the table, something that manages to pay homage to the NWOBHM era whilst also giving it a modern twist that results in a wonderfully unique sound that would be difficult to mistake as anything but The Mercy House.
With gigs alongside the likes of Blaze Bayley, Furyon and Voodoo Johnson lined up, this is definitely a band to watch! I think it's safe to predict that they are going to take the British metal scene by storm. They've certainly made an impact on me!
