Detached - None The wiser E.P.
South Wales is not particularly well known for producing quality Ska bands, but Detached have managed to produce a good, if slightly generic, example with self-released 6 track E.P None The Wiser. This is 18 minutes of bouncy, feel-good Ska-core, which has hints of Less Than Jake, Pegboy and Millencolin and a large dollop of Voodoo Glow Skulls, but with enough identity of its own to be worth more than a cursory listen.
This is a well produced debut, if a little light on the bass, and my only real criticism with the overall sound is that the horns tend to be a bit on the weak side.
None The Wiser is unlikely to set the Ska scene on fire in terms of originality, but it is a more than competent example of horn-laden Ska/Punk and, with winter fast approaching, Detached are a welcome reminder of summer with their sunny, infectious hooks.
