Your New Favourite Band

Squealing in like the love child of These Arms Are Snakes and At The Drive In, Solar Bear's new self-released six track EP impresses with a post-hardcore mix of manic, complex alt-rock riffage peppered with awkward rhythm changes, snatches of sophisticated, punk inspired melody and the odd ballsy chug. The great opener (after the intro) 'The Endless Choir' displays all these qualities in its five odd minutes, and makes you as excited as the first time you laid ears on "This Is Meant To Hurt You".

The fantastic, almost funk bass on 'Mr. Iconoclast vs. The Captains Of Industry' makes you want to dance, as does the catchy riff on 'Kafka Roaches'. The vocals are brilliant all the way through; emotive and versatile with a range that often spills over into well controlled screams. At the close, 'Good For Nothing Misfit Mothers' has shades of At The Drive In's complex madness, both spiralling out of control yet tightly woven, it is danceable, melodic, jagged, quirky and above all memorable and addictive. Probably your new favourite band waiting to be discovered.
