Last Mile – Last Mile

Last Mile is the debut album from the Danish Hardcore band of the same name whose members include Jacob Bredahl ex-HateSphere and Barcode and Laurits Medom from As We Fight.

Released in 2008 this self-titled album consists of 15 tracks and less than half an hour of aggressive Metal-infused hardcore and the band sound suitably pissed off throughout. Unfortunately, sounding supremely angry alone is not going to set Last Mile apart from any other Hardcore band on the scene, and there isn't really much more on offer here. Yes, the musicianship is tight and proficient. Yes, it's reasonably well produced. And, whilst it has also got plenty of vented fury, it's also lacking any standout tracks or memorable tunes. My main bone of contention is the vocals of Laurits Medom (who has since departed the band), who rants and rages through every song in a similar emo-esque/metalcore fashion for the duration of the album. One or two tracks of this are bearable, even mildly enjoyable – Last Mile certainly manage to create the required degree of energy – but after that Medom's vocals just grate which makes listening to the entire album a feat of endurance rather than a pleasure.

Things appear to have been a bit quiet on the Last Mile camp in the 2+ years since this album was released and, considering that two of the band members from this line-up have since left the band, it's anyone's guess as to whether this is a good indication of how the band currently sound.
