Dreamy, Melodic Post-Rock

"Kid Ikarus" is an unashamedly out and out post-rock album, full of all the trademarks of the genre; distorted, sweeping guitars building over and over to waves of spine tingling noise, piano refrains and no vocal input at all. The album is the debut full length from Swiss four piece Kid Ikarus, it's full of lengthy, highly textured tracks with depth and many beautiful moments as the band skilfully uses melodic guitar riffs and little touches from glocks and synth to add something extra in the background.

Some of the standout moments include the trilling, tuneful guitar on 'Better To Listen Than To Talk' which is followed by layers of open echoes as the tune repeats with the full band behind it; a decidedly Cocteau Twins-ish sounding riff and slide guitar which is all echoes makes an immediate impact at the start of 'Peacemaker' and 'White Chapel Hill' has an almost danceable beat and with another of those great tunes behind it and some light chiming guitar sounds it's a real winner.

A really lovely album from a band to watch out for, they have been releasing since 2005, but before this full length they've only released three hard to come by EP's which seems a shame as none of these songs are difficult despite being long, instrumental and pretty loud; on the contrary they inject melodies in everywhere making all these tunes accessible and memorable. Hopefully this will be the record that sees them get some more attention, as they certainly deserve to be more widely known. You can find out more on their record label website and myspace .
