Robin Beck – The Great Escape

Robin Beck shot to worldwide fame in 1989 with the release of the Coca Cola theme tune 'First Time'. This was the catalyst to a new start in her recording career. Her subsequent album release, 'Trouble or Nothin'' featured Steve Lukather (Toto), Paul Stanley (KISS), Diane Warren, writing partner Jeff Kent and Desmond Child. After releasing two further works featuring many respected session musicians, in 1994 she decided to take a breal from the music industry. 1998 saw the release of a single and since then has releasesd material on a regular basis.

'The Great Escape' is her 8th album release (if you don't count the re-release of 'Trouble or Nothin'' in 2009). Here she has managed to assemble another set of fine musicians to help her deliver eleven songs written by her and one., 'I'm Not A Bitch' which was written by The Elements from the UK

The album is full of easy to listen to catchy light rock songs. Robin's unmistakable voice over the very tight rhythm has to be complimented as she effortlessly masters even the most demanding moments. Her voice carries off the emotional parts very well and the grittiness adds an edge. The musicians don't disappoint either; there are some very fine diversions, especially when they allowed a little more freedom.

The album isn't just one dimensional; the subjects of the songs are varied and interesting. There's a Tiger Woods tribute 'Cross My Heart (And Hope You Die). Robin explains 'This song is for all the jilted women. Cheater and liars beware.... This song will show no mercy!'

'That All Depends' stands out from the others. Here, Robin sings a duet with Joe Lynn Turner (Deep Purple and Rainbow fame). Other highlights include 'The Great Escape', Till The End Of Time' and the no nonsense 'Baby I'm Not A Bitch'; in fact, all of the songs stand out in their own right. The catchy nature and the pop/rock feel of every song means that any one of them would do well if released as a single. Released too late for Christmas, the album will sell well anyway
