"Screamadelica", seminal third studio album by alternative rockers, Primal Scream, was released on the 21 September 1991 and provided them with their first real commercial success. The music is a unique blend of Rock, Dance, Dub and Gospel, and as Josh Homme commented, provides the unusual result of rock music you can dance to. The main hits from the album included 'Loaded' and 'Come Together'.
Primal Scream refuses to see themselves as a traditional band, but more as a number of musicians performing together. Bobby Gillespie was joined by Andrew Innes, Robert "Throb" Young, Martin Duffy, Henry Olsen and Phillip "Toby" Tomanov to produce this masterpiece, with Denise Johnson providing the amazing guest vocals on 'Don't Fight It, Feel It'.
The concert was recorded at the Olympia in London in 2010 and the first time ever that the entire album was played live. Primal Scream goes all out on this with an impressive opening to the gig, a full church choir as backup singers and an only slightly aged band that goes all out to provide the gig of a lifetime.
From the moment that the background shatters over the crowd and Bobby Gillespie runs out with the rest of the band, it is absolutely clear that this is going to be an epic show. Bobby politely asks whether everybody is ready to testify, seemingly not happy with the response he screams "I said, are you ready to testify?" before kicking the show off with 'Movin On Up'. The backdrop is filled with great visual effects throughout the performance and flows with the music whilst Bobby gets his groove on. It's been twenty tough years for the band since they released "Screamadelica" in the early nineties, and although they aged a little, they are clearly made for Rock 'n' Roll, as they still have the groove.
Whether you grew up on this album, are only discovering Primal Scream now or can't remember what happened in the nineties, this concert was an epic event that went down in the history of rock and the DVD successfully captured it. This makes the recording of this concert is a must have in any Primal Scream fan's collection alongside the "Classic Albums Screamadelica" DVD.
