'You're Cool' may be an overstatement

Following up on the success of the album title track 'You're The King', singer-songwriter Joe Holland otherwise known as House of Flukes releases his single 'You're Cool'.

The song begins with an organ intro, something slightly too calm to be effective in any way. This is soon accompanied by "doo-wop" backing vocals, which progresses to female backing vocals and a flute. There is a strange mix to the song that can make a listener a little uneasy. If this single is anything to go by, Holland is a man clearly not afraid of making direct statements. In his own style of conversational English (spoken words as it can not be called singing) he makes a direct statement "I like you; you're cool", while going on to mix metaphors such as "You're as cool as a midnight swim off the beach in Honolulu Bay" and comparisons like "You're like a five course gourmet dinner after living on a diet of gruel".

Even though this single has a lot of thought put into creating so many comparisons and metaphors, which show talents as a writer of some sorts, singing is not a high priority. If the album sounds anything like this single, it may not be one of the most stimulating of releases, but probably more of an intriguing listen in terms of lyrics.
