Bluesy Americana

North London quartet, The Border Surrender, make a pleasing Bluesy Americana racket; danceable melodic tunes are backed by throbbing bass, fuzz-laden guitar and keys. The four tracks on this new EP are moody, atmospheric numbers making one draw comparisons to The Black Keys and Springsteen amongst others.

The sound here is somehow both intimate and expansive, gently distorted folk tales, like the Sprinsteenesque opener 'If You Pass Me By' and 'Call To Prayer' which both have an epic quality making one think of huge landscapes, (mainly due to the open echoes of the production) and on the other hand you can imagine them being performed in smoky bars because of those bluesy keys and rhythms, as with the poppy tune and sing along inducing vocals of 'Mariner's Wife'.
