Indie rock

Foxes debut is indie rock infused with a tinge of many other sounds, folk and rock and roll amongst them. The record has a distinctly British sound, minimal and perky tunes with sweet little melodies, tunes like 'Sweet Little Wonder' and 'Get Me' sport an almost jaunty beat with a cheeky chappy type feel and bring to mind a long line of Brit hits from the past, Foxes certainly do have a crowd pleasing sound.

It seems from the accompanying press that the main driving force and spokesperson for the band is front man Nigel Thomas, his vocals drive the melodies of these tunes and have a tone reminiscent of Kaiser Chiefs front man Ricky Wilson and like that band they have a retro overtone and lack pretension which makes them very listenable but also very familiar.

The steady, mid tone of the album is sometimes punctuated with a track that makes you sit up and take notice, amongst these the best are opener 'Suzy' which is punchy and has a sing along quality; 'Run' starts slow and dreamy but opens up on the chorus into a catchy rock out track with some great vocals from Nigel and 'Send Me Nothing' which is a touch Futureheads in tone is a corker.

This is a solid debut from a passionate band but it does really feel like a record from a band early in their career, with some tracks lacking a focal point, like the meandering 'Out Of Service' which frustrates as it feels like an intro rather than a fully formed song, however, there is potential here and enough enjoyable moments to make it worth your time.
