Maybeshewill - Red Paper Lanterns

While I'm admittedly not much of a fan of Maybeshewill's choice in band names - pedantic, I know, but there's something about the format of words pushed together that I just can't get behind - that's where my dislike ends. The new single, Red Paper Lanterns, is a beautiful, textured climax of noise that conjures a rush of feeling impossible to ignore.

Full and overwhelming at times, Maybeshewill always seem to recognise the best time to gently bring the level back down, creating a soundscape of dizzying heights and calmer lows that are as immense to listen to as they are to visualise. Maybeshewill are definitely playing to their strengths here and there's something about it that captures the imagination and packs an altogether unexpected punch.

B-side Rain is equally beautiful, but does lack the sheer majesty of Red Paper Lanterns, which is by far and away the superior song.

And the best part is, it only gets better with each listen so there's every reason to hit the repeat button.
