Surf-pop

Surf-pop with the requisite distorted scuzz on the guitars and a nice line in nostalgic sounding melodies, (an 80s twang), makes for a quite charming sound on Fast Years new EP. Adding to the aforementioned lo-fi fuzz are vocal ooh's, handclaps and some great melodies, making an overall sound which is reminiscent of a mix of bands ranging from Buzzcocks to Vampire Weekend and the Vaccines.

The EP starts well with Let Me Try which has a Beach Boys type surf-pop feel, it's sweet and energetic. The best tracks are the more scuzzy lo-fi ones though Young Heart is a little too poppy and lacks bite but Like It Or Not has the mix just right; great bass line, vocals coated in light distortion and with a slight air of melancholy about it and Happy Hour moves faster and makes you dance, a cracking tune.
