Jupe Jupe, Headlong To Ground

Originating from Seattle, a place that has churned out some quality acts over the years Jupe Jupe are born from a rich musical heritage. Singer My Young, guitarists Bryan Manzo, Patrick Partington and drummer Jarrod Arbini are veterans of the scene. Previous album Invaders received rave reviews internationally and led to many high profile licensing offers from companies such as Hugo Boss and The Gap. This would put them in good company given the number of breakout bands that have come through advertisements recently, such as The Naked and Famous and Ben Howard.

Having taken a year out to write new material and record with Martin Feveyear (of R.E.M, Modest Mouse and Cornershop fame), Headlong to Ground is a catchy multi-layered offering. My Young's vocal powers seem to originate somewhere between Lou Reed and White Lies front man Harry McVeigh and are crystal clear. This is smoothly spread across a sound-scape that comes fully loaded with electro charge and pop charm. While deep within, howling guitars and synth wizardry will get you swaying.

B-side Piranha by contrast is a more haunting, gothic Song that's stripped down to simple melody and rhythm. It is reminiscent of early Depeche Mode and equally as catching as the first song.

Given the acclaim of the first album it may only be a matter of time before this band features on the next advert to grace your T.V screens. Headlong to Ground is strong enough to hold a place in this world and as the first song of new material leaves you exited for more to come.
