Meursault, Flittin'

Flittin' is the latest offering from Meursault, the Edinburgh band has a growing live reputation and has already bagged appearances at some of the more recognised festivals such as Glastonbury and Wickerman. It's a slow burning track that sees strings and pianos replace their more used synths and samplers.

A wall of earthy tones hits you from the beginning and Neil Pennycocks voice is something you want to hear again and again. The lyrics are beautifully moving, completely capturing and wrapped together with an astounding soundtrack that takes you in willingly. This song holds you close, rubs your shoulders and whispers in your ear that it's ok to cry. If I was to be ultra critical, the raw power of the song sometimes engulfs the vocals to such an extent that you can feel the strain in the voices as they do all they can to be heard. This opinion is re-enforced when you hear track two on this release, a stripped down acoustic version that allows Pennycock to sing within his range and the results are equally moving.

If I were to draw a comparison on this track alone it would be the Arcade Fire of the north. High praise indeed for a very deserving song, I would encourage them to explore this road more and hopefully their new album Something For The Weakened contains more of the same.
