Roni Size v Raw Bud, an experiment that led to mutation.

Raw Bud v Roni Size are the result of a discussion in a South Wales pub when the people of 'anti-mix' group Roni Size attempt to create the first ever Drum 'n' bass-punk rock crossover. Described as 'Motorhead meets raga', vocals come from Sweetie Irie, the man who sang in 'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz and sang the improvised bits. Apparently these 'Anti-mixes' have created such a stir on the British Isles that there has been talk of it on Radio 1 and XFM. So does the music live up to the hype?

The groups debut release 'Rise Up' will be put out on the 25th of April on not only CD, but 7" and 12" as well. Each one having a varied mix of 'Rise Up', a marketing ploy so every die-hard fan has to buy all 3 versions. Don’t forget the 7" comes in a 'limited edition' red- wow.

The terrible thing is the music is awful. For a group with so many attributes and so much to offer, the track is really just a gimmick and nothing more. Certainly nothing as radical as what The Transplants did a couple of years back and just as dull as the kind of cyborg-trance stuff you find in the underground mushroom shops in Camden market. I really cannot see the 'punk-rock' side to this CD and dance/trance/drum n bass run fluid throughout. Pretty run-of-the mill 'Fiat blingers yeah mate innit basically boof blatantly nah mate ciggy' music if you ask me.
