Velvet Star - All Or Nothing

All Or Nothing is the brand new EP from Yorkshire's rockers Velvet Star.

Opening track Bring It On starts with a building drumbeat and bassline before the guitar riff truly kicks in and doesn't let up for the entirety of the track. It's the perfect opening track; it grabs your attention, is bursting with energy and leaves you wanting more.

Crash & Burn continues where the opener left off, Velvet Star's energy is infectious and it makes it near impossible to sit still while typing this. This bass heavy number also shows off the vocal ability of Danny Jones; his range is impressive and he has great control of his voice. Crash & Burn is one of those songs that has to be seen in a live setting, and I will be keeping an eye open for these guys performing locally.

Closing track Glad You've Gone is bursting with energy, it's a true rock song with a big chorus that will get stuck in your head for hours on end. With its high octane drum and guitar work, Glad You've Gone make for a fantastic closing number.

To be honest, I was a little apprehensive when I received this EP; Muhammad Ali is on the cover, their press release likens them to Iggy Pop, The Wildhearts and Guns N' Roses, there was so much promise that I was ready to be disappointed, thinking that there was no way these guys could live up to the four greats I mentioned. Thankfully, Velvet Star delivered and I was far from disappointed; All Or Nothing is a fabulous release and well worth a listen. The only thing wrong with All Or Nothing is that it only has four songs on it.
